276 JOINT RESOLUTIONS

HOUSE OF DELEGATES, one person to be named by
the Governor of Maryland, who shall serve as Chairman of
the commission; and be it further

Resolved, That the commission be requested, if possible,
to report the results of its findings to the General Assembly
at its 1955 session.

(Senate Joint Resolution 4)

Senate Joint Resolution protesting over the imposition of
fees for the issuing of permits for work in navigable
waters.

WHEREAS, The members of the General Assembly of
Maryland have been informed that the Corps of Engineers
of the Department of the Army is considering the imposi-
tion of a schedule of fees covering the cost of issuing per-
mits for work in navigable waters of the United States un-
der the provisions of the River and Harbor Act of 1899
and of the General Bridge Act of 1946; and

WHEREAS, The proposed fees would range from $25.00
to $500.00 covering various types of structures or privileges
in the navigable waters adjacent to many miles of the shore
line of Maryland; and

WHEREAS, These fees would cover many small non-com-
mercial structures or facilities such as retaining walls, bulk-
heads, jetties and also the dredging of channels and berth-
ing areas, in addition to the building of piers, wharves and
landing bulkheads; and

WHEREAS, The proposed fees even would cover fish traps
and pounds, being set at $25.00 for gill nets and $50.00 for
traps and pounds; and
