motor vehicles operating on the State highways, relat-
ing to the length of trackless trolleys and providing for
the payment of the expenses of the State Roads Commis-
sion in enforcing the provisions of said Article, limiting
the height, width, length and weight of motor vehicles,
and use of the fines collected for violations of said
provisions.

SECTION 1. Belt enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sub-sections (1½) and (17½) be and they are
hereby added to Section 2 of Article 66½ of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1947 Supplement), title "Motor Ve-
hicles, " sub-title "Definitions of Words and Phrases";
that Sub-section (c) be and it is hereby added to Section
249 of said Article, sub-title "Operation of Vehicles Upon
Highways"; that Section 74 (i) and Sections 252 to 256,
inclusive, of said Article and sub-title be and they are
hereby repealed and that three new Sections be and they
are hereby enacted in lieu thereof, to be known as Sec-
tions 252, 253 and 254; that Sections 74 (b) and (c), sub-
title "Administration—Registration—Titling, " and Sec-
tion 285 (e), title "Operation of Vehicles Upon High-
ways, " of said Article, be and they are hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, and all to read as fol-
lows:

(1½) Axle Load: The total load transmitted to the road

by all wheels, the centers of which may be included be
tween two parallel transverse vertical planes forty inches

apart extending across the full width of the vehicle.


(17½) Gross Train Weights: The sum of the weights

of a combination of vehicles including any load thereon.

74.

(b) A fee is hereby imposed on every oversize motor
vehicle using the highways of the state, the said permit to
be issued by the State Roads Commission and the permit
shall specify the route to be followed, and the hour and
date on which the passage is to be effected and maximum
size.

The fee to be charged for said permit shall be $10. 00.

(c) A charge is hereby imposed on the weight of all
vehicles in excess of that permitted by law and every
vehicle having such overweight shall secure a permit from
