(1949 Ed. ), title "Miscellaneous Local Laws", sub-title
"Police Commissioner", heading "Organization of Force",
so as to restore the provisions relating to an assistant secre-
tary to the Police Commissioner, assistants to the secretary
to the Commissioner and the secretary to the Chief In-
spector.

WHEREAS, Chapters 175 and 176 of the Laws of 1949 repealed
Sections of the 1938 Edition of the Baltimore City Charter,
providing for an assistant secretary to the Police Commis-
sioner, assistants to the secretary to the Commissioner and a
secretary to the Chief Inspector of Police, in the belief that
such provisions were covered by another Section; and

WHEREAS, this belief was erroneous, and although said posi-
tions are provided for in the Baltimore City Budget, it is
desirable to clarify the law on the subject; therefore

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land,
That Section 529 of the Charter and Public Local Laws of
Baltimore City (1949 Ed. ), title "Miscellaneous Local Laws",
sub-title "Police Commissioner", heading "Organization of
Force", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

529. (a) The [said] Police Commissioner shall select some
suitable person to act as secretary to the Commissioner, whose
duty it shall be to take charge, by direction of the Commis-
sioner, of all property seized or found by the police [or detec-
tives] and to perform! all clerical and proper duties required
of him by said Commissioner; and it shall be the further duty
of said secretary to perform all clerical duties devolved upon
said Commissioner by law in connection with all the elections
held in said city as may be required of him by said Commis-
sioner; said secretary shall enter into bond to the State of
Maryland in the same manner as is by law prescribed for said
Commissioner in the sum of five thousand dollars, conditioned
for the faithful discharge of his duties aforesaid, and the safe-
keeping of all property placed in his hands as aforesaid. [, and
shall receive the salary of thirty-five hundred dollars ($3, 500)
per annum, payable monthly. ]

(b) The said Commissioner is hereby authorized to appoint
an assistant secretary, four assistants to his secretary and a
secretary to the Chief Inspector, all of whom shall receive such
compensation as shall be
provided in the annual Ordinance of
Estimates of Baltimore City. The Commissioner may require
any or all of said appointees to give such bond
as he shall in his
discretion prescribe.
