ing generally to the nomination, election and compensa-
tion of the Mayor, Vice Mayor and Councilmen of the
Town of Sharpsburg.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 728, 730, 731 and 732 of Article 22 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition),
title "Washington County, " sub-title "Sharpsburg, " Sec-
tions 728 and 731 thereof having been amended by Chapter
294 of the Acts of 1941 and Section 732 thereof having
been amended by Chapter 39 of the Acts of 1939, be and
they are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:

728. All citizens of the State of Maryland, entitled to
right of franchise therein and who have resided within the
corporate limits of the town of Sharpsburg six months next
preceding an election shall be entitled to vote at said elec-
tion and all subsequent elections. [And] They also shall be
qualified to hold office, either elective or appointive pro-
vided they have so resided in said town five years previous
to any election. [And] The said voters shall on the [first]
second Monday of September, A. D. [1922, ] 1952, and upon
the same day in every alternate year thereafter, elect by
ballot one citizen for Mayor and one citizen for Vice-Mayor
of said town, both of whom shall be citizens of the United
States and five years residents of said town next preceding
the election, and at least twenty-five years of age; they shall
take the oath of office as hereinafter prescribed for town
officers, and remain in office until their successors are
elected and qualified.

730. The [Burgess] Mayor shall preside at all meetings
of the board, and in case of a tie shall have the deciding
vote; he shall see that the ordinances are faithfully exe-
cuted, and for his services shall receive an annual salary
of [ten] fifty dollars, plus one dollar for his attendance at
each meeting.
In the absence of the [Burgess] Mayor, the
[assistant Burgess] Vice-Mayor shall assume the duties of
the [Burgess] Mayor; he shall, in all cases, have the same
vote as a Commissioner, except when acting as [Burgess]
Mayor.

731. At the same time and in the same manner as pro-
vided for the election of Mayor and Vice-Mayor, there shall
be elected five Councilmen, whose qualifications shall be
the same as those of the Mayor and Vice-Mayor. The Vice-
