additions, alterations and improvements to and for pur-
chasing equipment for the schools of Charles County;
and to authorize the County Commissioners of Charles
County to borrow upon the faith and credit of said
County an amount not to exceed Five Hundred Thou-
sand Dollars ($500, 000. ) and to issue its bonds there-
for for the purpose of constructing new school buildings,
for the purpose of making additions, alterations and
improvements to present existing school buildings and
for the purpose of equipping school buildings in Charles
County, and to provide for the levying of taxes to pay
the principal and interest of such indebtedness.
WHEREAS, there is some uncertainty as to the amount
of money which will be needed for the construction of
school buildings in Charles County to comply with the
state law and for additions and improvements to existing
school buildings and for the purchase of equipment for
the schools of said County; and
WHEREAS, it is of the utmost importance that the County
Commissioners and the Board of Education of Charles
County be in a position to proceed later this year with the
completion of an adequate school program; now therefore
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland;
That the County Commissioners of Charles County be
and they are hereby authorized to borrow on the faith and
credit of said County an amount not to exceed Five Hun-
dred Thousand Dollars ($500, 000. ) and from time to time
to issue and sell bonds in an amount not to exceed said
sum of $500, 000., said bonds to be signed by the President
of said County Commissioners, countersigned by the
Treasurer of Charles County and with the seal of said
County affixed thereto. The entire proceeds of such bonds,
after payment of costs of engraving and all other inci-
dental expenses connected with the issuance of such bonds,
shall be used for the purpose of constructing new school
buildings, for the purpose of making alterations, addi-
tions, and improvements to present existing school build-
ings and for the purpose of equipping school buildings in
Charles County.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That said bonds if
issued shall be issued in such denominations as shall be
determined by the said County Commissioners, and shall
bear interest at a rate to be determined by said Commis-
sioners, not in excess of four per cent. (4%) per annum.
