dum shall be publicly advertised at least two weeks prior
to the said referendum, in two newspapers of general
circulation in Cumberland. There shall be printed on the
ballots or upon the voting machine labels at said referen-
dum a brief statement as to the purposes of the said ordi-
nance, and the words "For Daylight Saving Time, " and
"Against Daylight Saving Time. " If a majority of the per-
sons voting on said question vote "For Daylight Saving
Time" the Mayor shall so declare by public proclamation,
and the said ordinance, or any similar ordinance there-
tofore ordained, thereupon shall be effective according to
its terms. If a majority of the persons voting on said ques-
tion vote "Against Daylight Saving Time" the Mayor
shall so declare by public proclamation, and the said ordi-
nance, or any similar ordinance theretofore ordained, shall
be null and void and of no further force or effect.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That all public gen-
eral and public local laws inconsistent with the provisions
of this Act be and the same are hereby repealed to the
extent of such inconsistency.

SEC. 2A. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, THAT
NOTHING IN THIS ACT SHALL BE CONSTRUED TO
AFFECT THE PROVISIONS OR THE APPLICATION
OF SECTIONS 1 AND 2 OF CHAPTER 32 OF THE
CODE OF GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF
CUMBERLAND (1950 EDITION), ENTITLED "DAY-
LIGHT SAVING TIME, " AS SAID SECTIONS WERE
ORDAINED BY ORDINANCE NO. 1809, ADOPTED
APRIL 14, 1947, AND AMENDED BY ORDINANCE NO.
1831, ADOPTED MARCH 22, 1948, PRIOR TO THE
TIME OF THE REGULAR MUNICIPAL GENERAL
ELECTION TO BE HELD IN THE YEAR 1952, UN-
LESS THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF CUM-
BERLAND SUBMIT THE SAME TO A REFERENDUM
OF THE VOTERS AT A SPECIAL ELECTION PRIOR
TO THAT TIME, IN WHICH EVENT THE PROVI-
SIONS OF THIS ACT HEREINABOVE SHALL APPLY
AND BE FOLLOWED.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That in the event a
majority of the persons voting on said question vote
"Against Daylight Saving Time, " the provisions of Sec-
tions 1 and 2 of Chapter 32 of the Code of General Ordi-
nances of the City of Cumberland (1950 Edition), en-
titled "Daylight Saving Time, " as said Sections were or-
dained by ordinance No. 1809 adopted April 14, 1947, and
