GOVERNOR'S PROCLAMATION DECLARING THE RESULT OF THE
ELECTION OF NOVEMBER 7, 1950, FOR STATE-WIDE
REFERENDUM
WHEREAS, the General Assembly of Maryland, at its January
Session, 1949, enacted an Act to wit: Chapter 135, providing
for the submission to the legal and qualified voters of the State,
for their decision the question whether there shall be called a
convention for the purpose of altering the Constitution of this
State, or of framing a new Constitution according to the pro-
visions of Article 14, Section 2, of the Constitution of this
State, as modified by Article 17, Section 9, of the Constitution
of this State; and
WHEREAS, The said Act provided for the submission of the
same to the legal and qualified voters of the State for their
adoption or rejection, at the election to be held on Tuesday,
November 7, 1950; and
WHEREAS, At the election, held on the day and date above
recited the said Act was so submitted as aforesaid and from
the certified copies of the returns of said election, filed with me
as required by the Constitution of the State, it appears that:
There were cast in favor of the adoption of said Act,
200, 439 votes; and against the adoption thereof, 56, 998
votes;
Now, THEREFORE, I. WM. PRESTON LANE, JR., GOVERNOR OF
MARYLAND, pursuant to the authority and direction contained
in said Chapter 135 of the Acts of 1949, do by this my Procla-
mation, hereby declare and proclaim that the greatest number
of votes were cast for a Constitutional Convention.
GIVEN Under my Hand and the Great Seal of the
State of Maryland, Done at the City of
Annapolis, this 1st Day of December, in the
Year of Our Lord, One Thousand Nine Hun-
dred and Fifty.
