and Bloomington in Garrett County and which is at present
maintained by said County.

WHEREAS, State Highway 135 and State Highway 41 con-
stitute a connecting link between U. S. Highway 219 and U. S.
Highway 220, and

WHEREAS, State Highways 41 and 135 make the most direct
route between Oakland, the County Seat of Garrett County,
and Cumberland, the County Seat of Allegany County, effecting
a saving in transit, of approximately ten miles, and

WHEREAS, State Highway 135 is a part of the most direct
route, for the residents of Maryland to the State owned and
controlled tracts known as Potomac State Forest, Herrington
Manor, Swallow Falls and the recreational areas of Pleasant
Valley and beautiful Deep Creek Lake, and

WHEREAS, State Highway 41 is entirely State-owned and
maintained, but State Highway 135 is owned and maintained
on the western end only from Lakes Service Station at the
Junction of State Highway 38 to the village of Swanton, in
Garrett County, and is State-owned and maintained on the
eastern end from McCool, through the incorporated towns of
Westernport and Luke in Allegany County on into the village
of Bloomington in Garrett County, leaving the central portion
of State Highway 135, which has been hard-surfaced by Garrett
County, still under County maintenance, and

WHEREAS, The County equipment at present must be trans-
ported over twelve miles of State Highways 41 and 135 to
maintain this central portion of Highway 135 which has now
become a, heavily travelled thoroughfare between the cities and
towns of Allegany County and points east and Oakland, Mor-
gantown, Fairmount and points west, now therefore be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
State Roads Commission be and it is hereby authorized and
directed to take over that portion of State Highway 135 which
is now maintained by Garrett County, from the western edge
of the village of Swanton to the present State-maintained por-
tion in the village of Bloomington, and thereafter to maintain
said portion of State Highway 135 as a part of the State High-
ways System.
