known as Section 717A, to follow immediately after Section
717 thereof, and to be under the sub-title "Roads", and to read
as follows:
ROADS
717A. Each member of the Board of County Commissioners
of Washington County shall receive the sum of Six Hundred
Dollars ($600. 00) annually to defray the expenses incurred in
the administration and operation of the County Roads System
in Washington County.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1951.

(Senate Bill 140)
AN ACT to add a new Section to Article 64A of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland (1947 Supp. ), title "Merit
System", said new Section to be known as Section 12A
and to follow immediately after Section 12 of said Ar-
ticle, as said Section 12 was amended by Chapter 324 of
the Acts of 1949, to make temporary employees ap-
pointed pending examination, who were such for one
year prior to June 1, 1951, permanent members of the
Classified Service without examination.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That a new Section be and it is hereby added to Article
64A of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1947 Supp. ), title
"Merit System", said new Section to be known as Section
12A, to follow immediately after Section 12 of said Article,
as said Section 12 was amended by Chapter 324 of the Acts
of 1949, and to read as follows:
12A. Any person who, on June 1, 1951 is a temporary
employee theretofore appointed pursuant to the provisions
of Section 12 (b) of this Article, and who has been such
