defense, upon not less than ten days notice. If any mem-
ber of a county board shall be removed, the State Super-
intendent of Schools shall file in the office of the Clerk of
the Circuit Court for the County for which the member
was appointed, if the member so requests, a complete
statement of all charges made against such member, and
his findings thereon, together with a complete record of
the proceedings. Vacancies on any of the county boards
for any cause shall be filled by the Governor for the unex-
pired term, and until a successor shall qualify. Any mem-
ber of a county board shall be eligible for reappointment,
unless otherwise disqualified by the provisions of this sec-
tion.
39. The County Board of Education shall hold an an-
nual meeting each year on the second Tuesday in May, or
as near as possible thereto in May. At this meeting the
board shall elect one of its members to serve as president
and one to serve as vice president. Other regular meet-
ings shall be held at least once in each school term, and
such special meetings may be held as the duties and busi-
ness of the board may require. The members of the
County Boards of Education shall receive no salary, but
each member shall receive the sum of One Hundred Dollars
annually for traveling and other expenses incident to at-
tending the meetings and transacting the business of the
board within the county; provided, however, that in How-
ard County each member of the Board of Education shall
receive annually the sum of Two Hundred Dollars for
such traveling and other expenses. In Charles County,
each member of the County Board of Education shall re-
ceive compensation at the rate of Two Hundred Fifty Dol-
lars annually.
7C The County Board of Education for Charles
County shall be composed of five members. The members
of said Board on June 1, 1951, shall continue to hold their
offices for the terms for which appointed, and as of that
day the Governor shall appoint two additional members
of said Board, to serve until the first Monday in May in the
year 1957. Except as provided otherwise in this section,
the said Board shall be subject generally to the provisions
of this sub-title as to appointment and tenure.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1951.
