SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1951.

(Senate Bill 425)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sub-
section 37B (h) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1947 Supplement), title "Sheriffs, " sub-title
"Compensation and Duties, " authorizing the Sheriff of
Charles County to appoint either one or two additional
Deputy Sheriffs and providing for the tenure and com-
pensation thereof.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sub-section 37B (h) of Article 87 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1947 Supplement), title "Sheriffs, " sub-
title "Compensation and Duties, " be and it is hereby re-
pealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:
37B.
(h) The Sheriff of Charles County shall receive an an-
nual salary of $3, 000. He may appoint a Chief Deputy
who shall receive an annual salary of $2, 400, a second
deputy who shall receive an annual salary of $2, 000, and
a third deputy who shall receive an annual salary of $900.
There shall also be a fourth Deputy Sheriff who shall
receive an annual salary of $900, shall reside in or near
the town of La Plata and whose principal duties shall con-
sist of policing said town. The Sheriff, Chief Deputy and
second Deputy shall each receive $800 per year for ex-
penses and the third Deputy $300 for expenses. The
Sheriff shall also be allowed $400 per year for clerical
assistance. In addition to the provisions hereinabove in
this section, the Sheriff of Charles County is authorized
and empowered to appoint either one or two additional
Deputy Sheriffs, said Deputy or Deputies to be appointed
subject to the approval of the County Commissioners of
Charles County, to receive such compensation for salary
