such policemen as may be deemed necessary and shall des-
ignate one of their number as Chief of Police. He may also
appoint from time to time, for a period not exceeding
forty-eight hours at any one time, such special policemen as
may be necessary to preserve the peace and good order of
the town of Snow Hill. Each regular and special police-
man so appointed shall subscribe to an oath for the faithful
performance of his duties. Each such policeman, during
his tenure of office, shall have all of the powers of a Con-
stable under the general law of the State of Maryland, and
any one resisting such policeman in the performance of his
duties shall be liable to conviction and punishment in the
same manner and to the same extent as if such person had
resisted a Constable. The policemen shall receive such com-
pensation as may be fixed by the Council and shall perform
such duties as may be prescribed by law, ordinance or by
order of the Mayor or Council.

307. The tax collector-City Clerk before entering upon
the discharge of his duties shall subscribe to an oath for
the faithful performance of his duties and give bond to, the
State of Maryland with security to be approved by the
Mayor and Council, in the amount of $2500. 00, conditioned
for the faithful performance of his duties as such Tax Col-
lector and City Clerk,
[in a sum twice the amount of the
taxes levied to be approved by the Mayor and Council, and
conditioned for the faithful performance of his duties; ]
He shall collect all taxes that may be levied by law, ordi-
nance or otherwise, [and shall pay the same promptly to
the Treasurer] and all other moneys payable to said town,
shall credit each such item to its proper account, and shall
cause all such collections promptly to be deposited to the
credit of Mayor and Council of Snow Hill in such bank or
banks as may be approved by resolution of said Mayor and
Council.
He shall keep safe and return when demanded, his
tax assessment books, bills, papers and receipts, and shall
make monthly reports of his collections; his books shall be
subject to general supervision by the Secretary-Treasurer
of the Council and shall be subject
to inspection by any tax-
payer; all such taxes shall be collected as county taxes are
now collected in Worcester County, or by suit and execu-
tion [as debts are now collected; and if collected by suit
and execution such suit and execution shall be] in the cor-
porate name of the Mayor and Council of Snow Hill as
debts are now collected
[; and] Every judgment and ex-
ecution in such suits for taxes shall have priority over all
other liens of whatsoever character except for unpaid taxes
due the United States, the State of Maryland, or any of
