LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAP. 354.

ged, pledged or otherwise disposed of, without the con-
sent previously obtained, in writing, of a majority of
all the full resident members of the said academy, and
that any such transfer or alienation, to take effect,
must be signed and sealed by all the officers of the
said academy for the time being.

Liabilities.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That all the property,
estate and revenue of the said academy shall be bound
and answerable for any contracts or engagements
made or liability incurred for or on account of the
said academy, by the directors thereof, and the ser-
ving of any writs or judicial process, by any officer
duly authorised, upon any director, shall be deemed a
good and sufficient service upon the said corporation.

Exempt from
tax.

SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That all the property,
estate, collection of paintings, statuary, engravings,
and other specimens of the arts, of what kind soever,
belonging to the said academy, shall be free from all
taxes and public dues of every kind, until it be other-
wise directed by law.

Place of meet-
ing.

SEC. 9. And be it enacted, That the meetings of the
said corporation shall be held in the aforesaid city of
Baltimore, and shall, as aforesaid, be the seat of the

said academy; and the said corporation shall have
power to appoint honorary members of the said aca-
demy throughout this State, the United States, and
foreign States, under such regulations, and with such
privileges, in the said academy, as the said corpora-
tion may deem proper from time to time to grant.

Gallery open.

SEC. 10. And be it enacted, That the gallery of the
said academy shall be opened at least three months of
each and every year, for the admission of visitors, un-
der such conditions and restrictions as shall be ex-
pressed and provided for in the bye-laws aforemention-
ed, and shall also be opened at least one Week of each
and every year for gratuitous admission.

Membership.

SEC. 11. And be it enacted, That any person who
shall be elected by a majority of two-thirds of the full
resident members present, at any regular meeting of
the said academy, and who shall pay, within one
month after his election, the sum of ten dollars, and
annually thereafter the sum of five dollars, shall be
