CHAP. 349.

privileges exempt the holder thereof, from jury duty
for the time limited in said certificate.

List of, to she-
riff.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the commanding offi-
cer of each volunteer company as aforesaid, shall, be-
tween the first and tenth days of March, in each and
every year, furnish the Sheriff of Baltimore county,
with a full and correct list of the members of said
company, to whom certificates of membership have
been issued for the current year, and no person named
in said list shall be required to perform jury duty, and

any commanding officer of a company failing so to do,
shall be fined not exceeding one hundred dollars, in
the discretion of the court martial as the case may
require.

Discharge if
summoned.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That in case the command-
ing officer of a company, shall fail to furnish the list
as above required, or shall omit the name of any mem-
ber to whom a certificate was granted, and in every
case where a member shall join a company and obtain
his certificate after the list has been furnished as above
required, such member if summoned on a jury shall be
discharged on producing his certificate to the Sheriff
or Coroner, as the case may he.

Active member-
ship.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That all certificates of
membership issued to uniformed, and active members
of a volunteer company as aforesaid, shall specify that
said member is a uniformed and active member, but

Honorary mem-
bership.

every such company may nevertheless receive honorary
members, who on payment of not less than five dollars
in advance for the use of the company, shall be enti-
tled to a certificate of honorary membership, to be
issued in like manner and limited for the. like period,
as the certificates of uniformed and active members,
and said honorary members shall for the lime limited
in their certificates, be exempt from militia duty only,
except that they shall be liable to duty in said compa-
ny, in case of invasion.

Seven years ser-
vice.

SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That any person who
shall have been for seven successive years a uniformed,
and active member in one or more volunteer compan-
ies as aforesaid, shall thereafter be exempt from mili-
tia duty, except in case of invasion or insurrection,
