CHAP. 333.

for as all the other expenses of carrying this law into
effect by the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore.

Procure books.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the said registers
shall procure at the cost of the corporation of the said
city of Baltimore, suitable books for the registration
of the names of voters, the said books to be so arranged
as to admit of the alphabetical classification of the
names.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That the said registers
shall register in said books, the name of each and every
person who shall apply to be so registered, and who
shall be. known to the said registers, or who shall prove
by evidence, satisfactory to them, that he is a bona
fide resident of the ward, and is or will be duly quali-
fied to vote in the city of Baltimore at the next elec-
tion, according to the constitution and laws of Mary-

land, and of the United States, and the said registers
shall require every person so applying to be registered
and by them adjudged entitled to be registered, to
state, in addition to his name, the name of the street,
lane or alley in which he may reside, and whether he
be a householder or a lodger, and if a lodger, the name
and residence of his landlord or landlady, and in case
there be no number to the house, to designate its loca-
tion in some other explicit mode, all of which particu-
lars shall be plainly entered opposite to his name upon
the registering books.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That lest any person duly
qualified to vote, within the city of Baltimore, might
by the operation of the above section be deprived, from
absence, sickness or other cause, of an opportunity of
registering his name, it shall be lawful for any citizen
of good credit to apply to the said registers to register
the name of any person, a legally qualified voter, who
may be known to him to be temporarily absent from the
city, or so sick or infirm as to be unable to apply in

under oath or affirmation if required by the registers,
the name of the person whose name he proposes to re-
gister, the street lane or alley in which he may reside,
