CHAP. 285.

which may accrue upon the State's share of the surplus
revenue of the United States, received and to be re-
ceived by the Treasurer of the Western Shore, and di-
rected by the fourth section of the said act of Decem-
ber session, eighteen hundred and thirty-six, chapter
two hundred and twenty, to be deposited in some in-
corporated bank or banks in Baltimore, or elsewhere
in this State, at the discretion of the Treasurer of the
Western Shore, shall be distributed among the coun-
ties of this State, and the city of Baltimore, for the
support and encouragement of education in this State

in the manner following: one half of said interest fund
among all the counties in this State, and the city of
Baltimore, in exact proportion to the amount of the
white population of each respectively, as ascertained
by the last census of the United States, and the other
half of said fund by dividing it into twenty-one equal
parts, and alloting to each county, and the city of Bal-
timore, one of said parts.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said interest shall
he forthwith apportioned and distributed as provided
in the first section of this act, as if done at the period
at which the fund mentioned, and referred to in the act
of eighteen hundred and sixteen, chapter two hundred

tributions shall be made annually when the said other
funds are distributed.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the Treasurer of
the Western Shore, be, and he is hereby authorised to
pay over to each of the counties in the State, and the
city of Baltimore, or to person, or persons, or authori-
ties in each, now authorised to draw for and receive
their respective quotas of the free school fund, the re-
spective proportions of the said counties and city, of
the interest derived and to be derived from the said
surplus revenue of the United States.
