tion thereof, by the said court were directed to issue a
requisition in favor of the builder of the said bridge, on
the collector of Somerset county, for a sum not exceeding
two thousand dollars, all which appears reference being
had the said act, and whereas, it has been represented
to this General Assembly. that the said commissioners
afted locating the said bridge, did publish a contract, for
the building thereof, in the newspaper aforesaid, ac-
cording to the said act, and on the day named in the
said publication, offered the said contract at public
auction, having first altered the same in some slight
particular, and Alexander Donoho, of said county be-
came the lowest bidder therefor, and the purchaser
thereof, and the said commissioners reported the said
contract so as aforesaid, purchased by the said Alex-
ander, to the levy court of the said county, and the
said Alexander in pursuance of the said act, entered
into bond with Security to the said levy court, for the
building of the said bridge, and whereas, it has been
represented that the said Alexander hath completed
said bridge, but the said levy court have wholly failed
and refused to issue their requisition in favour of the
said Alexander, on the collector of the said county, for
the price of building said bridge, and whereas, dis-
putes have arisen between the said levy court, and the
said Alexander in reference to the matters hereinbe-
fore detailed, and the said Alexander has been advised
that he is without remedy, except, by the interposition,
of the General Assembly, and whereas, at the present
session of the General Assembly, the said levy court
of Somerset county has been abolished, and a corpor-
ation called Commissioners of the county, has been
substituted in its place, and whereas, it is the opinion
of this General Assembly that the said Alexander
Donoho should be paid for the building of said bridge,
such sum as he is in equity, and good conscience enti-
tled to: — Therefore for the purpose of doing justice
between the parties.

CHAP. 265.

SECTION. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That upon the petition in writing of Alex-
ander Donoho, to the judges of Somerset county court,
it shall be the duty of the said judges as speedily as
possible to hear, consider and determine all disputes
