and dispose of the residue of the estates real and per-
sonal of the testator and to apply the proceeds thereof
accordingly; And whereas it is doubted whether these
objects can be accomplished under the existing laws of
this State, for recovering such debts.

CHAP. 215.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That in the progress of the cause now pending in the
High Court of Chancery, wherein Thomas S. Alexan-
der is complainant, and Edward L. Nicholson and
wife, and others, defendants, or by such other and fur-
ther proceedings as may be instituted therein, the
Chancellor shall have full power and authority to pass
such decrees and orders as may be required to sell
and dispose of the whole of the residue of the estates
real and personal of the testator, Richard Harwood of
Thomas, forthwith, and to apply the proceeds thereof,
to the payment of the creditors of the testator and of
such other debts now unpaid as have been contracted
by his family since his death, and ought to be so paid
in the opinion of the Chancellor, and the nett balance
thereof, without delay, to be distributed to the devisees
and legatees of the testator, or their representatives, ac-
cording to their respective interests, as fully as if there
had been no restriction imposed by the last will and"
testament of the testator, or by the act of December ses-
sion, eighteen hundred and thirty-five, chapter two
hundred and thirty, anything in the laws of this State
to the contrary notwithstanding.

1838.

WHEREAS, Henry Shreeves, formerly of Baltimore
county, but now of Carroll, was some three years since
appointed by the commissioners of Baltimore county,
a collector of tax in and for the sixth collection district
of said county; and whereas, a part of said collection
district has since been included in, and now constitutes
a part of Carroll county; and whereas, some doubts
exist as to the legal authority of said Shreeves to com-
plete his collections; — Therefore,
