CHAPTER 56.

CHAP. 57.

An act supplemental to an act, entitled an act to provide
for building a new Court House in the town of Cumber-
land, in Allegany county, passed December session, eigh-
teen hundred and thirty-three, chapter eighty-nine.

Passed Feb. 4,
1640.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the commissioners of Allegany county,
may in their discretion, assess and levy on the assessable
property of said county, at the time of making their next
public levies, such sum of money as in their judgment
shall be necessary for finishing and completing said court
house; provided, that they shall not in any one year levy
a greater sum than one thousand dollars, nor in the whole
a greater sum than four thousand dollars.

Proviso.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said commis-
sioners, at their regular annual levies, in addition to such
levies as they may make for completing said court house,
may levy a sufficient sum to pay the collectors commis-
sion for collecting the same; and that the assessment here-
by authorized to be made and levied, shall be collected
by the collector of the county charges for the time being,
in the same manner as other public charges are by law
collected; and the said money, or any instalment thereof,
when collected, shall be paid over by such collector to the
aforesaid commissioners, or the majority of them, ap-
pointed under the act to which this is a supplement; and
they or a majority of them are required to apply the same
to the use and purpose by this acted directed.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That all the powers and duties
conferred, on the said commissioners by the eighth section
of the act to which this is a supplement, be and the same
are hereby extended to, and fully vested in the commis-
sioners aforesaid, or a majority of them.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That all hay and straw, brought to the city of
Baltimore for sale, either by land or water, except hay in
