CHAPTER 51.

An act for the re-assessment and valuation of the Real and
Personal Property in Somerset County.

Real and perso-

nal property to
be valued, &c.

Exception.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That all the real and personal property in So-
merset county shall be valued agreeably to the directions
of this act, and shall be chargeable according to such
valuation, with the public assessment for said county, ex-
cept such description of property as is excepted out of
the valuation by the act of Assembly, passed at Decem-
ber session eighteen hundred and twenty-nine, chapter
one hundred and six, and also property belonging to dif-
ferent denominations of Christians in said county.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the commissioners for
Somerset county shall meet at Princess Anne as soon af-
ter the passage of this act, and an authenticated copy
thereof shall have been received by them, as may be con-
venient; and when so met, shall appoint three sensible
and active persons of said county, to be assessors of the
real and personal property in said county, and shall cause
an entry of such appointment to be made in their book of
proceedings; and shall immediately after such appoint-
ment, designate a day and place, not exceeding fifteen
days after such appointment, of which a period not ex-
ceeding ten days shall be given by the said commissioners
or their clerk, for the said assessors to be and appear be-
fore them; and upon their appearance, said commission-
ers shall read such parts of this act, and the act of eigh-
teen hundred and twelve, chapter one hundred and nine-
ty-one, and of the act of eighteen hundred and twenty-
nine, chapter one hundred and six, to said assessors, as
relate to their duties; and shall advise them in what man-
ner to make their assessment and valuation, and in what
form to return their certificates thereof; and the said com-
missioners shall appoint a day, not exceeding sixty days
thereafter, for said assessors to return, in writing, their
assessment and valuation of the property in said county,
in pursuance of this act, of which notice shall be given
in some newspaper published in said county, or if no
newspaper be published in said county, by advertisement,
set up at public places in said county for three weeks
prior to said return day.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That each assessor, before
he proceed to the execution of the trust under this act,
