the amount due, and when any district is

in want of a school house, school commis-

sioners to purchase a lot or lots of ground,

&c. in the most convenient places for a ma-

jority of the pupils, &c. when land

cannot be had at fair prices to condemn

said land,

DORCHESTER

CO. — Not to condemn more than half an

acre for each school, and where they do con-

demn, authorised to cause a plat and certifi-

cate to be made out by surveyor of county,

and to be returned to clerk of county to

be recorded, &c. when necessary to con-

demn, to be valued by three disinterested

persons, one chosen by owner. and one by

commissioners, the two to select a third,

said persons to take an oath fairly to value,

&c. to name the sum to be paid, and make

return of valuation to the clerk of county

with a plat, &c.

Upon return being made, commissioners

to take possession, &c. and to erect a suita-

ble school house, &c. and pay for house

and lot out of the money in the hands of

the treasurer of school fund, &c. surplus if

any to be applied to the support of said
school; commissioners not prevented from

purchasing house if they deem it expedi-

ent to do so,

Commissioners of tax of, to levy annual-

ly the sum of $4000, for use of primary

schools, to be collected and paid to treasu-

rer of school fund as provided for in the 3rd

sec. of the act of 1837, ch. 206,

The benefit of primary schools to be ex-

tended to all white children over 6 years

of age, and all male adults permitted to re-

ceive instruction in said schools; adult de-

siring the benefit, to obtain permission of

the commissioners of the district to which

they belong, to pay such sum as shall be

agreed upon by commissioners for tuition,

money to be applied to use of the school,
