CHAPTER 281.

CHAP. 281.

An act to incorporate the Village called and known by the
name of Nine Bridges, and to change the name thereof
to that of Bridgetown, in Caroline County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the citizens of the village commonly cal-
led Nine Bridges, in Caroline county, shall be and they are
hereby constituted and made a body corporate, known by

the name of Bridgetown, with all the privileges of a body
corporate, and to have a common seal, and perpetual suc-
cession, and in the name of the commissioners, for the
time being, to be capable of sueing and being sued.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the free male white citi-
zens of Bridgetown aforesaid, of the age of twenty-one
years and upwards, shall on the second Monday of April
next, at some suitable house in said town, and on the same
day, and in each and every year thereafter, at such house
as shall hereafter designated by the municipality, be au-
thorised to elect five commissioners for the said town, who
shall have resided within the limits of the same three
months next preceding the election.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That a justice of the
peace, for the time being, residing in the said county, shall
appoint, by writing, under his hand and seal, one judge
to told the first election, who shall keep the polls open

from one to five o'clock in the afternoon, and shall con-
duct the said election in the same manner in which the
judges of elections are now bylaw directed to conduct an
election for Delegates to the General Assembly, as far as
may be consistent with the provisions of this act, and the
said judge shall make return, under his hand and seal, of
the persons elected, to the clerk of Caroline county, to be
by him kept; and at all subsequent elections, the names
of the commissioners so elected shall be entered in a book
to be by them kept, instead of being returned to the
clerk as aforesaid.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That all future elections
shall be held and conducted as shall be, from time to time,
directed by the by-laws of the corporation, the same not
being inconsistent with the provisions of this act.

the first meeting after said election, choose some one of
