CHAPTER 271.

An act to divorce, Mary Smith, of the City of Baltimore,
from her husband John Smith.

Divorce.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Mary Smith, of the city of Baltimore, be and she is
hereby divorced from her husband John Smith, a vinculo

matrimonii.

An act to incorporate the American Beet Sugar Refining
and Manufacturing Company.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That G. L. Thompson, and his associates, suc-
cessors, and assigns, and all and every person and persons
whomsoever, shall become associated with them in the
manner hereinafter prescribed, shall be and they are here-
by created and declared a body politic and corporate, by
the name and style of the American Beet Sugar Refining
and Manufacturing company, and as such shall have per-
petual succession, and shall be able to sue and be sued,
plead and be impleaded, to make or cause to be made, and
at all times use a common seal for all purposes requiring
the same.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said body politic
and corporate, shall be and are hereby authorised and em-
powered to hold real estate, lying and being in Anne
Arundel county, Howard district, or Baltimore county, to
receive and make deeds and contracts at such place or
places, or in such county or counties within the State, as
shall be convenient, necessary and useful, to cany into ef-
fect the intent, object and meaning of this act, and as may
be necessary from time to time, cultivate and produce the
sugar beet or other vegetables yielding succharine matter,
not exceeding in value, the sum of fifty thousand dollars,
and to hold and possess and enjoy all real estate necessa-
ry for mill sites, steam engine, buildings, machine shops,
and fixtures for manufacturing sugar from the beet, and the
products of the same, and also, all other personal property,
and apparatus whatsoever, necessary for the above mention-
ed objects; also to construct, manufacture and elect all such
