CHAP. 237.

Proviso.

power and privileges as are allowed by the existing laws
in said cases made and provided; provided, that the said
Samuel Jordan shall not be entitled to collect any bill of
taxes from any person who shall make oath that he does
not owe said taxes.

To make affida-

vit.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the aforesaid Samuel
Jordan, shall in every instance, before he may proceed to
the aforesaid collection, make affidavit before some jus-
tice of the peace of Carroll county, that the same remains
unpaid, and that he hath not received any security or sa-
tisfaction for the same, or any part thereof, more than what
credit or credits may be allowed thereon.

In force

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That this act shall not con-
tinue in force longer than one year from the date of the
passage thereof.

CHAPTER 236.

1840.

An act to divorce Susan Brice, of the City of Baltimore,
from her husband John P. Brice.

Divorce.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Susan Brice, of the city of Baltimore, be and she is
hereby divorced from her husband John P. Brice, a vincu-
lo matrimonii.

CHAPTER 237.

Passed Mar. 1
1840,

A supplement to an act, entitled an act to provide for the
repair and preservation of a certain Bridge in Saint
Mary's County, passed December session eighteen hun-
dred and thirty-eight, chapter two hundred and thirty-
eight.

May sell bridge.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That if the commissioners for Saint Mary's
county should deem it inexpedient, or find it impracticable
to repair the bridge over the head waters of Saint Mary's
river, in accordance with the provisions of the act to which
this is a supplement, then and in that event said commis-
sioners are hereby authorised to dispose of said bridge by
public sale, to the highest bidder, and the proceeds there-
from to be paid into the free school fund for said county.
