1839.

the raised under this act, in aid of the said fifteen thousand
dollars, as they may deem reasonable, if they shall believe
said fifteen thousand dollars not to be a full compensation
for such a lock as may be proposed for; but in case of
their making a contract with any person or persons about
to propose for a contract with the company as aforesaid,
the same shall be conditional, upon such person or persons
contracting with the said company, and giving security
under the said act, if asked for by the said company.

CHAP. 235.

Contract to be

conditional.

SEC. 9. And be it enacted, That it shall be lawful for
the said commissioners, or a majority of them, to apply
the monies to be raised under this act to indemnifying any
person who shall become the security to the said compa-
ny for the payment of any arrears in the cost of said Out-
let lock, over and above the said fifteen thousand dollars,
which the said company may be compelled to pay for the
erection or building of the same.

CHAPTER 235.

Application of

monies.

An act to allow Samuel Jordan, further time to complete
his collections.

Passed Mar. 13,
1840.

WHEREAS, Samuel Jordan, formerly of Baltimore coun-
ty, but now of Carroll county, was appointed by the com-
missioners of Baltimore county, a collector of tax, in and
for the sixth collection district of said county; and whereas, a
part of said collection district has since been included in,
and now constitutes a part of Carroll county: and whereas,
some doubts exist as to the legal authority of said Jordan
to complete his collections — therefore,

Preamble.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the said Samuel Jordan, collector as
aforesaid, be and he is hereby authorised and empowered
to complete his collections in said district, in the same
manner that it would have been lawful for him to have
done, if the act creating Carroll county had not been pas-
sed.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That Samuel Jordan, for-
mer collector of taxes as aforesaid, be and he is hereby
authorised and empowered to collect any taxes or balance
of taxes now remaining due to, and uncollected by him,
in the district aforesaid, in the manner and with the same
