CHAPTER 185.

A supplement to an act, entitled an act to blend Newtowm,
(Trap) and New Freedom, in Frederick County, into one,
by the name of Jefferson, and to establish Boundaries of
Lots by Commissioners, and to incorporate the same, pass-
ed December session eighteen hundred and thirty-one,
chapter two hundred and ninety-nine.

Mayor to act as
justice of peace.
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That from and after the passage of this act,
which is a supplement to an act, entitled an act to blend
Newtown, (Trap) and New Freedom, in Frederick r.ounty,
into one, by the name of Jefferson, and to establish boun-
daries of lots by commissioners, and to incorporate the
same, that in addition to the powers vested in the chief
officer or mayor of said corporation, he shall have full
power to act as justice of the peace in all matters relating
to said corporation; and that all officers elected by autho-
rity of said act of incorporation shall continue to act until
other officers have been elected and qualified.

Limits of cor-
poration.
|
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the limits of said cor-
poration shall extend one half mile each way, but nothing
shall be so construed in this law as to authorize the taxa-
tion of any property for the benefit of said corporation that
was not embraced in the corporate limits before the pas-
sage of this act.

An act to confirm the Proceedings of the Commissioners ap-
pointed to divide the Real Estate of Mary Stewart, late
of Baltimore City, deceased.
|

|
Preamble.
|
WHEREAS, William P. Stewart, of the City of Balti-
more, by his petition to this General Assembly, hath set
forth that he together with David Stewart, as two of the
parties entitled to, and representing each of them one
fourth part of the estate of a certain Mary Stewart, late of
said city, deceased, on the sixteenth day of April, eighteen
hundred and twenty-three, filed their petition in Baltimore
county court for the division of the real estate of Mary
Stewart, according to the provisions of an act of the Ge-
neral Assembly of Maryland, passed at December session
