SEC. 11. And be it enacted, That the said commis-
sioners, or a majority of them, shall have full power and
authority, annually to appoint a bailiff, whose duty it shall
be to preserve the peace and good order of said town,
and for this purpose he is hereby vested with the same

power and authority as any constable may now have un-

der the laws of this State.

tained, shall be so construed as to authorise the corpora-
tion hereby created, to issue any device, token, note, cer-

WHEREAS, it is represented to this General Assembly,
on behalf of John Whiteside, that he has been a resident
of the State of Maryland for a number of years; and
whereas, the said John Whiteside has become the holder
of real properly in the Slate, but cannot exercise a legal
control or disposition of the same, because he is not a na-
turalized citizen of the State— therefore,

Preamble.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That John Whiieslde, be and he is hereby authorised and
empowered to take, hold and dispose of the real property
he may now have any equitable or other claim to, within
the limits of the Sta'e of Maryland, or which he may
hereafter acquire, in the same manner as if the said John
