CIX.

liable to a fine of one dollar, and for every day after the first five days the sum of fifty cents, to be
recovered and applied as aforesaid.

IV. AND BE IT ENACTED, That any provisions contained in any former law or laws on this sub-
ject, as a re inconsistent with the present, shall be and the same are hereby repealed.

CHAP. CX.

Passed Decem-
ber 24, 1810.

An ACT to authorise the Levy Court of Harford County to levy a
sum of money for the purpose therein mentioned.

BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the levy court of Harford county, if
they should think proper, be and they are hereby authorised to levy a sum of money, not ex-
ceeding four hundred dollars, on the assessable property of said county, in addition to what they
have already levied, for the purpose of erecting a bridge over Deer Creek, at or near Stafford
Mills, in said county.

CHAP. CXI.

ber 24, 1810.

An ACT to change and alter the name of Richard Cooke, of Queen-
Anne's County, to that of Richard Cooke Tilghman.

WHEREAS Richard Cooke, of Queen-Anne's county, by his petition to this general assembly,
hath set forth, that his uncle Colonel Richard Tilghman, late of the county aforesaid, de-
ceased, by his testament and last will, devised to him a considerable real and personal estate in fee
simple, and by a codicil to his said will expressed a wish that the said Richard Cooke should assume
the surname of Tilghman, and by that name hold and enjoy the said estate, and being desirous of
fulfilling the wishes of his said uncle, prayed that a law might pass authorising him to take and use
the surname of Tilghman, and that he might for ever hereafter be called and known by the name of
Richard Cooke Tilghman, and also to authorise his children and descendants to take and use the
said surname of Tilghman, instead of Cooke, and it appearing reasonable that the prayer of the
said petitioner should be granted, therefore,

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the name of Richard Cooke, of
Queen-Anne's county, be and hereby is changed and altered unto the name of Richard Cooke Tilgh-
man, and it shall and may be lawful for the said Richard Cooke, at all times hereafter, to be called
and known by, and hold and use the name of, Richard Cooke Tilghman, and by that name to sue and
be sued in any court of law or equity, and it shall and may be lawful for the issue of the said Ri-
chard Cooke, born, or hereafter to be born, to take upon themselves and each of them the surname of
Tilghman, instead of the surname Cooke, and the surname of the said Richard Cooke shall be and
is hereby changed and altered to the surname of Tilghman, and the issue of the said Richard
Cooke, born, or hereafter to be born, shall at all times hereafter be called by, and hold and use the
surname of, Tilghman, and be from henceforth called by the surname of Tilghman.

III. AND BE IT ENACTED, That all securities, promises, contracts, assurances, deeds, and law-
ful acts whatsoever, heretofore made or done, or hereafter to be made or done, by or to the said
Richard Cooke, by the name of Richard Cooke Tilghman, or heretofore made to or hereafter to be
made or done by or to the issue of the said Richard Cooke, born, or hereafter to be born, by the
surname of Tilghman, shall be of the same force and effect, and equally avail to all intents and pur-
poses, as if the name of Richard Cooke Tilghman had been the true and proper name of the said
Richard Cooke, and as if the surname of Tilghman had been the true and proper surname of the
said Richard Cooke, and of his issue, and of each of them, from their birth, any law, statute or cus-
tom, to the contrary notwithstanding.

CHAP. CXII.

Passed Decem-
ber 24, 1810.

An ACT to incorporate a Company for erecting a Bridge over Chop-
tank River, at or near Dover Ferry.

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly, by the petition of sundry inhabitants of
Talbot and Caroline counties, that the convenience of the public would be greatly promoted
by erecting a bridge over Choptank river, and praying that a law may pass to incorporate a com-
pany for erecting a bridge over the said river; therefore,
