CHAP. 383.
County commis-
sioners authorised
to subscribe 200
shares.
|
Sec. 13. And be it enacted, That the county com-
missioners of Washington county, be, and they are
hereby authorised to subscribe for such number of
shares, not exceeding two hundred, in the capital stock
of the company hereby incorporated, that they may
deem expedient and proper to be subscribed for, in the
name, and for the benefit of Washington county, and
to be represented at all meetings of the stockholders of
said company, by the county commissioners for the
time being, or by such person or persons, as may be

And to levy there-

duly authorised by them; and they are further author-
ised to levy on the taxable property of said county,
such sum or sums of money as may be necessary and
proper to comply with the terms of said subscription.

Toll gate authori-
sed.
|
Sec. 14. And be it enacted, That the said company
having perfected the said road, according to the inten-
sion of this act, it shall and may be lawful for them to
erect one gate any where on said road; provided, the
same be nut within two miles of any town through
which the said road may pass, and to appoint such and
so many of the toll-gatherers as they shall think pro-
per, who are hereby authorised and empowered to col-
ect and receive of, and from all and every person and
persons using the said road, the tolls and rates here-
inafter mentioned, and to stop any person riding,
leading or driving any horses, cattle, sheep, hogs,
sulky, chair, chaise, phaeton, coach, couchee, cart,
wagon, sleigh, sled or other carriage of pleasure or
burthen, from passing through said gate, until they

Rate of tolls.
|
have respectively paid the same, that is to say, the
following sums of money, and so in proportion for any
greater or lesser number of sheep, hogs or cattle, viz:
for every score of sheep, ten cents; for every score of
hogs, ten cents; for every score of cattle, twenty cents;
for every horse and his rider, or led horse, six cents;
for every chair or chaise, with one horse and two
wheels, ten cents; for every chariot, coach, stage,
wagon, phaeton or chaise, with two horses and lour
wheels, twenty cents; for either of the carriages last
mentioned, with four horses, thirty cents; for every
other carriage of pleasure, under whatsoever name it
may be known, the like sums according to the num-
ber of wheels and horses drawing the same; for every
cart or wagon whose wheels do not exceed, the breadth
