CHAP. 327.

tion districts of said county, which have or may here-
after adopt, the primary school system; and if at any
time one hundred or more of the citizens of any elec-
tion district which has not already adopted the primary

system, shall, in writing, so request the manager of

said district shall call a public meeting as hereinbefore
directed, and shall open polls from ten o'clock, A. M.,
to six o'clock. P. M., and take, the ballots of the quali-

fied voters of such district, and on the said ballots shall

be printed or written 'Common Schools. ' or 'Primary
Schools, ' and if the majority of said votes he in favor
of the common schools the same shall he continued, but
if the majority be in favor of primary schools they
shall be, adopted, and the provisions therefor, as here-
in contained, shall he carried into effect in said district.

Case of district not

adopting school.

Sec. 31. And be it enacted, That in any district
which has not. adopted the primary school system, and

until such district shall agree and determine so to do,

the money apportioned to such district shall he applied

in the same manner as required by the act passed De-

cember session, eighteen hundred and twenty-five,
chapter one hundred and sixty-two, and the supple-
ments thereto, the manager hereby authorized to be
appointed for such district acting instead of. and per-
forming all the duties which the school commissioners

are now required to perform.

General supervi-

sion.

Sec. 32. And be it enacted, That the commissioners

for Montgomery county, shall exercise a general super-

vision over the proceedings of said managers, may
examine their books and papers, and shall prosecute for

any delinquencies, or violations of their duty, and the

said managers shall exercise the same power over the
proceedings, books and papers of the treasurer of the

school fund of said county and in like manner over the

proceedings, books and papers of the trustees in the

several school districts, and shall prosecute for all vio-

lations of this act by them committed.

Copy of assessment

books.

Sec. 33. And be it enacted, That the clerk of Mont-
gomery county court shall annually make out copies
from the assessment books of said county, of all the
assessable property in said district, and deliver the
same to the said managers, for which the said managers
shall pay him a reasonable compensation.
