CHAP. 318.

hundred and forty, at which April session, it shall be
the first duty of said commissioners, to elect a compe-
tent clerk, who shall. enter upon the duties of his said
office, commencing with the close of said session, and
shall serve for one year thereafter, as, provided in the
original act to which this is a supplement.

Annual February

session annulled.

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That the annual February
session of county commissioners, as heretofore held,
is, by virtue of this act abolished.

CHAPTER 317.

Passed April 1,
1839.

An act to authorize Thomas I. Bayard, of Cecil County,
former Collector of the Tax, for the first Collection
District, to complete his collections.

Authorised to col-

lect.

SECTION I. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Thomas I. Bayard, of Cecil county,
former. collector of taxes in the first collection district
of said county, be and he is hereby authorised and em-
powered, to collect any taxes now remaining due to,
and uncollected by him, in the county aforesaid, in the
same manner and with the same privileges and powers as

are allowed by the existing laws in such cases made

and provided.

Accounts to be

proved.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the aforesaid Thomas
I. Bayard, shall in every instance before he. proceed to
the collection, make affidavit, or affirm, before some
justice of the peace of said county, that the same re-
mains unpaid, and that he has not received any securi-
ty or satisfaction for the same, or any part thereof,
more than what credits may be allowed thereon.

Limit 1 year.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall not
continue in force longer than one year from the first
day of July next.

CHAPTER 318.

1839.

An act to Incorporate the Union Silk Company of Caro-
line County.
