for the purpose of building a bridge over Hunting
creek at Jacobs' Ford, on the road leading from Crea-
ger's town to Frederick.

CHAP. 243.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the Levy Court
aforesaid, be, and the same are hereby authorised, to
contract with any person, or persons, to build said
bridge, and are -required to take bond, or bonds, with
sufficient security, from any contractor. or contractors
for the faithful performance of his; or their contract
in the usual form.

CHAPTER 243.

Contract-bond, &c.

An act to incorporate the Trustees of Union Town Aca-
demy in Carroll County.

Passed Mar. 26,
1839.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Samuel Cox, James L. Bellingslea,
John Smith, Henry Harbaugh, and William Roberts,
be appointed Trustees for the Union Town Academy,
in Union Town, Carroll county, and their successors,
to be appointed as hereinafter directed, shall forever

hereafter, be, and they are hereby declared to be one
body politic and corporate, with perpetual succession

in deed and in law, by the name and style of the trus-
tees of the Union Town Academy, by which name and
style the said trustees and their successors, shall be
capable in law and in equity, to hold property, the
value of which, shall at no time, exceed five thousand
dollars, for the said Academy.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That if a vacancy occur
in the board of trustees, the same shall be filled by
the remaining trustees, until the next annual election
of the same.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That on the first day of
January, in every year, an election shall he held by
the qualified voters at the Academy, which said elec-
tion shall be by ballot, and conducted as follows, to

wit: every subscriber to said institution shall be al-
lowed one vote for each dollar by him subscribed, and
one vote only for any sum less than one dollar; the five
persons having a majority of the votes, shall be de-
clared the trustees for the ensuing year; provided, that
