CHAPTER 156.

1839.

An act for the relief of Thomas Duffy.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, it is represented to (bis General Assem-
bly, on behalf of Thomas Duffy, that he is a resident
of the State of Maryland; and whereas, the said
Thomas Duffy has become the holder of real property
in the State, but cannot exercise a legal controul or
disposition of the same because he is not a naturalized
citizen of the State. — Therefore,

May hold real es-

tate.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Thomas Duffy be, and he is hereby authorised
and empowered to take hold and dispose of the real
property he may now have an equitable or other claim
to, within the limits of the State of Maryland, or
which he may hereafter acquire, in the same manner
as if the said Thomas Duffy had been a naturalized
citizen of the United States, at the time when his claim
to such property originated.

CHAPTER 157.

Passed Feb. 23,
1839.

An act, entitled, an act to repeal an act to establish
Magistrates' Courts in the several counties of this
State, and to prescribe their jurisdiction, passed at
December session eighteen hundred and thirty-five,
chapter two hundred and one, together with all the
supplements thereto, so far as the same relates to
Caroline County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That an act, entitled, an act to establish
magistrates' courts in the several counties of this State,
and to prescribe their jurisdiction, passed at Decem-
ber session, eighteen hundred and thirty-five, chapter
two hundred and one, together with all the supplements
thereto, be, and the same are hereby repealed, so far
as the same relates to Caroline county.

Pending suites, &c.

provided for.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That in all cases where
suits have been instituted in said courts for the re-
covery of a sum not exceeding fifty dollars, if no judg-
ment has been rendered thereon, it shall be the duty of
