CHAP. LVI.

Passed 20th of
January, 1808.

An ACT to prevent swine from going at large in the town of Belle-
Air, in Harford county.

Preamble.

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly, by the petition of sundry inhabitants of
the town of Belle-Air, in Harford county, that great inconveniencies have resulted from the
going at large of swine in said town; for prevention whereof,

Swine may be
seized, &c.

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That it shall be the duty of the constable
of the hundred, resident in Belle-Air, to seize or impound any swine, the property of any inhabi-
tant of said town, he shall find going at large therein, and it shall be the duty of said constable, so
seizing and impounding, immediately to set up notice thereof in the most public places, of said town,
for at least three days, and to insert the marks and description of such swine in said notice, and if
the same are not reclaimed within three days after seizing and impounding, and the expenses of im-
pounding and keeping, to be allowed by a justice, of the peace to be paid, together with twenty-five
cents for every hog, to the said constable, that the same shall be publicly sold by the said constable,
giving three days notice in writing, set up as aforesaid, of the time of such sale, and the proceeds
of such sale shall be first applied to the expense of impounding and keeping them, and the surplus,
the one half thereof shall be retained by the constable, and the other half shall be paid over to the
supervisor of the road leading through Belle-Air, and applied by him towards the amending and re-
pairing the streets in said town.

Not to extend
to J. Bond's.

III. AND BE IT ENACTED, That this law shall not extend to the house or farm formerly the pro-
perty of James Bond, deceased, any thing herein to the contrary notwithstanding,

CHAP. LVII.

Passed 20th of
January, 1808.

A Further supplement to the act, entitled, An act to lay out and
make a public road from the Black House to the Pennsylvania line,
in Harford county.

Preamble.

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly, by the petition of Thomas Poteet and
Thomas Poteet, junior, that a law passed at the last session of assembly authorising Thomas
Poteet and Thomas Poteet, junior, to have a jury summoned to ascertain the damages occasioned by
the road being laid through their land, leading from the Black House to the Pennsylvania line, and
the said Thomas Poteet and Thomas Poteet, junior, proceeded under the original act and its supple-
ments, to which this is a further supplement, and had a jury summoned, which said jury proceeded
and made out their verdict, and returned the same to the levy court of Harford county, and the said
court being of opinion that they were not authorised to levy the money agreeably to the return of
the aforesaid jury, on account of an error in the law, the word Black Horse being inserted instead
of the word Black House; therefore.

Court to receive
a verdict, &c.

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the levy court of Harford county be
and they are hereby authorised and directed to receive the verdict so as aforesaid made out by the
aforesaid jury, in the same manner, and to have the same effect, as if the error in the original law
and its supplements, to which this is a further supplement, had not occurred, and at their next an-
nual meeting to levy on the assessable property of Harford county the amount of money, agreeably
to the return of the jury under the act of the last session, to which this is a supplement, and when
the same shall be levied as aforesaid it shall be collected and paid over to the said Thomas Poteet,
and Thomas Poteet, junior, or their order, as other county charges are collected and paid.

CHAP. LVIII.

Passed 20th of
January, 1808.

An ACT to extend further the powers of the levy court of Allega-
ny county, relative to roads in said county, and for other purposes.

Court to fix the
number of
days, &c.

BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the levy court of Allegany county
shall have power, and they are hereby directed, annually, at their August meeting, to fix and
determine upon the number of days the respective supervisors by them appointed shall be authorised
to summon or warn all the able bodied male persons in said county, above the age of sixteen, to
assist in repairing the public roads therein; and that it shall and may be lawful for every person who
shall be summoned or warned to work as aforesaid, and for every master or mistress of servants, in
lieu of working on the public road, as aforesaid, to pay to the supervisor of their district the sums
