NOVEMBER. LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAP.
CLXIX.

said managers, or a majority of them, may determine, and to apply the emolument thereof for the
promotion of the objects contemplated by this act of incorporation.

Managers may
propose a
scheme, &c.

III. AND BE IT ENACTED, That it shall and may be lawful to and for the said managers, so as
aforesaid appointed for the several counties respectively, or a majority of them, to propose a scheme
or schemes of a lottery, for raising a sum of money, not exceeding two thousand dollars, for each
of said counties, and to sell and dispose of the tickets thereof; provided the said managers, or a
majority of them, do, before the sale of any ticket or tickets in the said lotteries, give bond to the
state of Maryland in the penalty of ten thousand dollars, conditioned, that they will well and truly
apply so much of the money arising therefrom, within twelve months alter the drawing of said lot-
teries, as will satisfy the fortunate adventurers for prizes drawn by them, and after deducting the
necessary expenses incurred in said lottery, and the residue thereof to the purposes of the said
boards of agriculture in the said counties; and the said bond shall be lodged in the clerk's office of
the several counties herein mentioned, therein to be recorded, and upon such bond, or any office
copy thereof, suit or suits may be instituted against the obligors therein, for any breach or non-com-
pliance with the condition thereof.

And make or-
dinances, &c.

IV. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said managers, and their successors, in the said counties, or
a majority of them, shall have full power and authority to make ordinances for the good government
of the said societies, to appoint a president, secretary and treasurer, to the said societies, and to
award and dispose of the annual emoluments in such premiums or medals as may be best calculated
to promote the improvement of domestic manufactures or agriculture in this state.

Treasurers to
enter into bond,
&c.

V. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the treasurers so respectively to be appointed, shall, before they
enter on the duties of the said office, enter into bond to the said boards of agriculture, with such
security as the said boards may approve of, conditioned for the faithful performance of their duty;
and that the said boards cause a statement of the distribution of their premiums or medals to be pub--
lished annually in some news-paper in this state.

How a vacancy
is to be filled,

VI. AND BE IT ENACTED, That at all times hereafter, when any vacancy or vacancies shall hap-
pen in any of the said boards of managers, the surviving or remaining managers, or a majority of
them, shall have full power and authority to fill up the same.

An ACT for the payment of the journal of accounts.

WHEREAS it appears by the journal of accounts of this session, that there is due from the
state the sum of thirty-one thousand nine hundred and ninety-three dollars and nine cents;

Treasurer te
pay, &c.

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the treasurer of the western shore
shall and he is hereby authorised and required to pay the several persons, their executors, admini-
strators, assigns or order, or to such of them as shall offer to receive the same, the several sums
of current money allowed to them respectively, as they appear to be settled and ascertained by the
said journal, of accounts, out of any money now in the treasury, or that shall come into the treasury,
subject to the appropriation of the general assembly.
