to such extent as they may deem expedient. Provided,
that nothing herein contained shall be construed to impair
the prior rights or liens of the State of Maryland, under the
mortgages heretofore made and executed by the Chesa-
peake and Ohio Canal Company, to said State, but the
same shall be held binding and be accordingly respected,
except in so far as the same may hereafter be waived,

CHAP 125.

And be it further enacted, That this act shall take effect
and be in force as soon as it shall have received the assent
of the legislature of the State of Maryland—of the Con-
gress of the United States—and the stockholders of the
said Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Company—in general

Section 1. Therefore be it enacted by the General As-
sembly of Maryland, That the said act of the General
Assembly of Virginia, be and the same is hereby accepted,
assented to and confirmed.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect and be in force from the passage thereof.

CHAPTER 125.

 

An act to authorise Henry M. Jamison to bring a certain
negro into Maryland.

Passed Feb.
13, 1844.

Whereas Henry M. Jamison, emigrated from Maryland
to Virginia, in eighteen hundred and forty-one, taking with
him his negro boy named Lewis, aged at that time about
ten years; and whereas the said Jamison is desirous to bring
said boy Lewis into Maryland, whenever the family of said
Jamison shall visit Maryland from domestic or other consi-
derations. Therefore,

Preamble.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the said Jamison, be and is hereby authorised and
allowed to bring said negro boy named Lewis, into Mary-
land, whenever the family of said Jamison, shall visit Mary-
land, for domestic or other considerations; and to retain
and keep said boy Lewis in this State, so long as the family
of said Jamison, shall remain as visitors or travellers in the
State of Maryland and no longer, and for no other purpose,
any act to the contrary notwithstanding.
