CHAP. 83.

heretofore paid or settled said taxes, such oath or affirma-
tion shall be a full set off and forever bar the collection of
such taxes.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall continue
in force for and during the year eighteen hundred and forty-
four.

 

CHAPTER 83.

12, 1844.

An act entitled, an act for the benefit of Rebecca Ann
Stewart, widow of Paul H. Stewart and their three
children, Elizabeth, Charles and William.

Preamble-

Whereas it appears to this General Assembly, that Paul
H. Stewart, late of Baltimore county, an alien hath recently
died seized and possessed of a very small parcel of land,
lying in the said county, called "Teals Search, " which he
purchased of Thomas McCauslin and wife, and received a
conveyance therefore, as will appear by the record thereof
in Liber T. K. No. 312 folio 327 &c. one of the land
record books of Baltimore county, leaving a widow Rebecca
Ann Stewart, a native citizen of this State, and three infant
children, viz: Elizabeth Stewart, Charles Glenn Stewart
and William Stewart, of very tender age and in needy cir-
cumstances, which land became escheatable to this State,
by reason of the said deceased's being an alien; and where-
as the said Rebecca Ann Stewart hath applied for an escheat
warrant, to have the said land surveyed and so forth, all right
to which she agrees to relinquish on the passage of this act,
and whereas it seemeth just and reasonable that an act
should be passed for the relief and benefit of the said widow
and children Therefore,

States interest
released.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That all the right, title and interest of the Stale of Mary-
land, of, in and to the said parcel of land of Paul H.
Stewart an alien, late of Baltimore county deceased, which
was escheated to the State of Maryland, or to the value
thereof, be and the same are hereby released to the said
widow and children of the said Paul H. Stewart, to be
held, used and disposed of by them respectively, as if the
said Paul H Stewart had died a naturalized citizen of the

Proviso.

United States. Provided however, that nothing herein con-
tained shall be held or construed to divest or affect any
right of third persons, not parlies herein acquired before
the passage of this act.
