An act for the benefit of Elizabeth Garrett of Howard
District.
|
Preamble.
|
Whereas it has been represented to this General Assem-
bly, by the petition of Elizabeth Garrett, a native of War-
rickshire in England, that she emigrated to the United
States in the year eighteen hundred and six, since which
time she has resided in the village of Lisbon; that she has
by industry and frugality acquired a small amount of real
property, and being now nearly eighty years of age, she is
desirous of disposing of her said real property by last will
and testament; and whereas it is doubtful, whether the said
Elizabeth Garrett, under the existing laws, would be im-
mediately entitled to rights of citizenship, and it appearing
reasonable that she should be authorised and empowered to
hold her said real estate within this State, in the same man-
ner and with the same rights and privileges as if she had
been regularly naturalized. Therefore,

To hold and
enjoy, &c.
|
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the said Elizabeth Garrett, be and she is hereby autho-
rised and empowered to hold and enjoy the lands and pre-
mises and real estate heretofore granted and conveyed to
her, or in which she may have any title to or equity of right
in, and all other lands, premises and real estate which may
hereafter be granted and conveyed to her, in the same man-
ner and with the same rights and privileges as if she was
regularly naturalized or a native citizen of this State, with
power to grant, convey and dispose of, and transmit the
same or any part thereof by deed or last will and testament
or otherwise.

An act entitled a supplement to the act of December session
eighteen hundred and sixteen chapter one hundred and
twenty-nine.
|
Repealed.
|
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That so much of the act of December session
eighteen hundred and sixteen, chapter one hundred and
twenty-nine, as requires and directs sheriffs and other offi-
cers to advertise sales of negro slaves lands or tenements
to be made by them in their official character, in a news-
