An act to incorporate the Hebrew Love and Friendship Bene-
ficial Society of the city of Baltimore.

Preamble.

Whereas S. Eytinge, Moses Cohen, S. Binswanger,
M. Rosenburgh, Lewis T. Cohen, Simon Frank, F. Ros-
wald and H. Kayton, by their petition to this General As-
sembly, have set forth that they and others of the city of
Baltimore, have formed themselves into an association by
the name of the Hebrew Love and Friendship Beneficial
Society of the city of Baltimore, for the purpose of pro-
viding a fund by small periodical contributions in time of
health, for the support of such members of the association
during sickness as may hereafter be in need of assistance,
and of decently interring them when dead, and with a view
the better to carry out the benevolent object of the associa-

tion, have prayed to be incorporated. Therefore,
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That S. Eytinge, Moses Cohen, S. Binswanger,
M. Rosenbeigh, Lewis T. Cohen, Simon Frank, F. Bos-
wald, and H. Kayton, and their associates and successors,
and those who may hereafter become members of the said
association, be and they are hereby created and made a
body corporate, by the name and style of the Hebrew Love
and Friendship Beneficial Society of the city of Baltimore,
and by that name shall have succession for thirty-years, and
be capable in law to sue and be sued, to adopt and have a
corporate seal, to take, hold, sell and transfer any estate,
real, personal and mixed, not exceeding in the whole the
value of twenty thousand dollars at one time, and to make
a constitution, by-laws, rules and regulations for the govern-
ment and perpetuation of the said society.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That nothing herein contained
shall be so construed as to authorise this corporation, to
issue any device, token, note, certificate or other evidence
of debt, to be used as a currency.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That the light is hereby
expressly reserved to the General Assembly of Maryland,
at its pleasure, to alter, or repeal this act of incorpora-
tion.

 

CHAPTER 76,

8, 1844.

An act to change the name of the Channing Literary Insti-
tute of Baltimore, to that of the American Literary Insti-
tute of Baltimore.
