discharge of their duties to conform to the

   

regulations applicable to collectors appoin-

   

ted by levy courts &c.

Cleiks of Levy Courts, &c. as soon as

   

practicable to place in the hands of collec-

   

tors, copies of the certificates and returns

   

directed to be made by assessors &c, in

   

case of default, be liable to indictment, and

   

to forfeit a sum not exceeding$500, for use

   

of the State, clerks and registers &c. to

   

be liable to same penalty &c.

Said cleiks and register to inform Gov-

   

ernor by certificate, on or before 20th day

   

of April, whether there are in their respec-

   

tive counties duly appointed and qualified

   

assessors, and it shall be their duty, on or

   

before 1st day of June, to give same in-

   

formation in reference to the appointment

   

of collectors of said tax,

In counties in which said tax has not

   

been levied and assessed, levy courts &c,

   

and mayor and city council of Baltimore,

   

at time of meeting for levying taxes for the

   

use of their counties in 1844, or whenevei
