LAWS OF MARYLAND.

1848

CHAPTER 48.

CHAP. 48.

Supplement to the act entitled, an act to aid in the establish-
ment of a Female Seminary in Frederick city.

Passed Jan.
25, 1844.

Whereas it is represented to this General Assembly, by
the board of commissioners of the Frederick Female Semi-
nary, as also by numerous citizens of Frederick city and
county, that the object intended to be effected by the origi-
nal act, to which this is a supplement, will fail and the in-
tention of the legislature thereby be defeated, unless the
said board is allowed to raise a larger amount of funds than
is provided for in and by said act. And whereas, it is a
matter of deep and permanent interest, not only to Fred-
crick city and county, but to the State at large, that a semi-
nary, such as is contemplated by said act, should be estab-
lished and properly endowed; and this General Assembly
being satisfied that the said commissioners have thus far
faithfully discharged the duties imposed upon them by said
act, and are willing and desirous to complete said trust, so
confided to them, as soon as the necessary means shall be
provided. Therefore,

above all expenses and charges, and for that purpose the

sand dollars in the same manner as they are now raising the
sum authorised in and by said original act.

ded.

of lotteries, as they shall from time to time raise said sum,
shall pay the same over to said board of commissioners of
the Frederick Female Seminary, who shall apply not more
than ten thousand dollars thereof, in the same manner and
for the same purposes as are set forth, and provided for in
said original act, to which this is a supplement.

missioners and their successors shall pay the remaining
twenty thousand dollars over to the trustees of the Fred-

said Frederick Female Seminary, and which is hereby
