chAp. S46.

stating their names, sexes and ages, with an affidavit
thereto attached, that the same is a true and faithful list
or lists of the said negro slave or slaves so removed, and
that he the said Josias Hawkins, administrator as afore-
said, hath not removed the said negro slave or slaves into
this state, for the purpose of sale, and that he verily be-

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That no negro slave or
slaves brought into this stale as aforesaid, shall be entitled
to his, her or their freedom, any law to the contrary not-
withstanding.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That the said Josias Haw-
kins, administrator as aforesaid, at the time of making
said list or lists, and filing the same with the clerk of the
county court, shall pay to said clerk the sum of fifteen
dollars for each slave, between the ages of twelve and
forty-five years, and the sum of five dollars for each slave
under twelve and over forty-five years of age, so as afore-
said biought into this state by him, to be by said nlerk
paid into the treasury of this state for the use and benefit
of the Colonization Society of Maryland.

An act for the benefit of the securities of Philip B. Tra-
villa, deceased, former Sheriff and Collector of Kent
county.

Preamble

Whereas, ithas been represented to this general assem-
bly of Maryland, that Phillip B. Travilla, former sheriff and
collector of Kent county, hath departed this life leaving a
portion of taxes and fees due him from sundry persons,
and that at the time of his death he was indebted and
responsible to sundry persons in his official character, and
for which his securities are liable, and it would be but
justice to permit the said securities to collect such public
dues and apply the same in discharging as far as practi-
cable the said official liabilities of the said former sheriff
and collector; and whereas, it is further represented,
that the said Philip B. Travilla, hath departed this life
insolvent, and that no administration will be taken out
upon his estate—Therefore,

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assemby of
Maryland, That Hugh Wallis, William Lamb and others,
the securities of the late Philip B. Travilla, the former
