An act authorising a certain portion qf the school funds,
belonging to Caroline and Dorchester counties to be ap-
plied for the benefit of a school, at Midway school house
in Caroline county, near the line between said county and
Dorchester.

Whereas it is represented that the inhabitants both of
Caroline and Dorchester counties, residing near a school
on the Caroline side of the road, that divides the said coun-
ties, and about equi-distant between Federalsburg and
Hunting creek, and now known as Midway School House,
could with more convenience, send their children to said
school than to any other school in either county; and
whereas it is proper that the school funds of each county
should be so distributed as to equally accommodate all the
citizens; and whereas in consequence of a want of autho-
rity in the school authorities of each county, to apply any
part of the money belonging to either, to any school beyond
the respective county, and whereas legislative aid is
solicited from citizens of each of said counties. Therefore,

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the authorities having charge of the public school
funds in each county respectively, in making the apportion-
ment of the public school money amongst the schools in
each of said counties may in their discretion distribute and
appropriate to the said school, one half as much as is given
to any similar or located school in the lower election district

in Caroline county. Provided, that Dorchester county,
from the fund distributed to New Market district, in the
discretion of the commissioners of the school fund, shall
pay the same amount and no more, from her school fund,
which may be allowed under the provisions of this law, to
said school by Caroline county from her school fund, and
that each county allows the same amount, and that said
school be entitled to receive from the school funds of Caro-
line county, the said amount; provided, the number of six
scholars shall be subscribed thereto, for six months, from
Caroline county, as required by the law for regulating loca-
ted schools in Caroline county, and the said school shall be
called and known by the name of Dorchester and Caroline
Midway school.
