CHAP 214.

John Barnes, late clerk of Charles county court, be, and
they are hereby authorized to place the fees which accrued
and become due to the said John Barnes, in his life time,
as clerk aforesaid, in the hands of the sheriffs of the sev-
eral counties of this state for collection, at any time be-
fore the first day of May next, any law to the contrary

Proviso.

notwithstanding; provided, the said sheriffs in whose hands
such accounts of lees shall or may be placed for collection
shall not be answerable for, nor compelled to account for
the same, before the first day of December thereafter.

 

CHAPTER 214.

Passed Feb'y.
29, 1844.

An act to allow John D. Ward, former Sheriff of Calvert
county further time to complete hit collections.

Time allowed.

Section 1. Be it enabled by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That John D. Ward, former sheriff of Calvert
county, be and he is hereby authorized and empowered
to collect until the first day of June eighteen hundred and
forty-five, all fines, forfeitures, amerciaments, officer's lees
and balances now remaining due to, and uncollected by

him in the county aforesaid.
Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the said John D.
Ward, before he proceeds to execute the body or proper-
ty of any person or persons for fines, forfeitures, amercia-
ments, fees and balances aforesaid, he shall deliver or
cause to be delivered to such person or persons chargea-
ble with the same, at least thirty days previous to serving
or levying such execution, an account of the sum de-
manded of him her or them which shall contain the spe-
cific items charged, with an affidavit annexed thereto,
that he hath not, nor hath any person or persons acting
under him whilst sheriff, nor since, received any part

thereof or satisfaction for the same to the best of his
knowledge and belief, provided, that if any person against
whom there is a claim by said Ward, shall make oath or
affirmation before some justice of the peace of said coun-
ty, that he or she believes the same to be unjust or that
the same has been paid at any time previous, it shall for-
ever bar such claim.

tates.

Sec. 3. Be it enacted, That nothing in this act
shall be so construed as to affect the estate of any deceas-
