Provisoes.

county, to hold and retain in this State as slaves for life
certain negroes who are now within this State, provided
that the said Jesse Selby shall within thirty days after the
passage of this act file with the clerk of Prince George's
county court a list of said slaves, with an affidavit there-
to attached, that the same is a true and faithful list of
said slaves, stating their ages, and that they have not
been brought into this state, for sale, that they are slaves
for life; and provided further, that the said Jesse Selby,
shall pay to the clerk of said county court the sum of
fifteen dollars for each slave between the age of twelve and
forty-five years, and the sum of five dollars for each slave
under the age of twelve, and over the age of forty-five years,
to be paid over by him to the treasurer of the western
shore for the use and benefit of the Colonization Society
of this State.

 

CHAPTER 150.

Passed Feb.
14, 1844.

An act to authorise the Burgess and Commissioners of the
Town of Jerusalem (commonly called Funk's Town) in
Washington County, to open such Streets and Alleys in
said Town which have been closed up, according to the
plat thereof, as they may deem expedient, and to the inter-
est of the citizens of the Town.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the burgess and commissioners of Jeru-
salem, (commonly called Funks Town, in Washington
county, ) after the passage of this act, be, and they are
hereby authorized to provide by ordinance, and do open
such street and alleys in said town, according to the
plat thereof, as has been closed up, and as they the burgess
and commissioners of said town may deem expedient, and
to the interest of the citizens of said town.

glect or refu-
sal, to take
testimony.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That in case said burgess
and commissioners, should call upon the proprietor or pro-
prietors, of the town, or their agent, for the original plat
thereof, and if said proprietor, or proprietors, or their
agents neglect to furnish them, with the said plat so as to
enable them, the said burgess and commissioners, to define
the limits and direction of such streets and alleys; then and
in that case, they may and shall proceed to take such tes-
timony in the case as they may think necessary, to define
the limits and directions of said streets and alleys, and pro-
