Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That all laws inconsistent
with this law, be and the same is hereby repealed.

CHAPTER 132.

 

An act to authorise the trustees of school district number
two, in election district member one, of Talbot county, to
levy a tax for the payment of rent due for school houses
in said district.

17, 1844.

Whereas the inhabitants of school district number two,
election district number one, of Talbot county, have for
some years past been renting school rooms, and the rent of
the same remains unpaid, by reason of doubts entertained
by many, as to the power of the citizens of said district under
the primary school law of said county, to levy taxes for the
payment of said rent, and it is deemed right and proper
the same should be paid. Therefore,

Preamble.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That from after the passage of this act, the
trustees of school district number two, in election district
number one, of Talbot county, commonly known as the
"Easton district, " be and they are hereby authorised and
empowered, to levy and assess upon the taxable inhabitants
of said district, the sum of four hundred and forty-eight
dollars, the arrears of rent now due to Edward N. Ham-
bleton, for rent of school rooms from the year eighteen hun-
dred and thirty-nine to the present time, for the use of the
primary schools of said district.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the trustees of said
school district, be and they are hereby authorised, em-
powered and required to appoint a collector for the collec-
tion of said sum by the first section of this act, ordered and
required to be levied and assessed.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That the collector to be ap-
pointed by said trustees, be and he is hereby invested with
all powers for the collection of said tax, now conferred
upon the collectors of county taxes in Talbot county, and
that the said trustees shall have full power to levy in addi-
tion to the tax specified in the first section, such further
sum not exceeding fifteen per cent, as they may deem a just
compensation for said collector.
