RESOLUTIONS.

touching his sanity at the time of the commission of the
murder of which he has been convicted, and since — there-
fore,
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the Governor of this State be and he is hereby authorised
to appoint one suitable person as commissioner whose duty
it shall be to collect and take all such testimony either in
this state, or in the city of Washington as he may be able
to collect, touching the sanity of the said Frederick Fritz
alias Jacob Bruker, at the time of the commission of the
murder of which he has been convicted, and that it shall be
the duty of said commissioner to transmit such testimony
when taken to the Governor, for the purpose of aiding
him in determining upon the sanity or insanity of the said
Frederick Fritz alias Jacob Bruker at the time of the com-
mission of said murder, and at this time.
And be it resolved, That the said commissioner shall have
power to issue subpoenas for witnessess, and to adminis-
ter oaths or affirmations to all such witnessess as may be
produced before him.
And be it resolved, That the Levy Court of Frederick
county be and they are hereby authorised to pay said com-
missioner such compensation and charges as they may
think right and proper out of any unappropriated money
that may be in the hands of the treasurer of said county.

Resolution requesting our Senators and Representatives in
Congress, to have the stock of the United States in the
Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Company, transferred to
the State of Maryland.

WHEREAS the Government of the United States now
holds in the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal stock to the
amount of two millions five hundred thousand dollars; and
whereas said work is not completed, and does not nor will
not yield any dividends or proposals on said stock in its pre-
sent condition; and whereas the State of Maryland is interest-
ed in said work, as stockholder and creditor to an amount
over eight millions of dollars which is also unproductive
and to pay the interest in which the good people of this
state are heavily taxed; and whereas the terminus of this
work is within the district of Columbia and when com-
pleted will tend vastly to promote the interest of the in-
