CHAP. 28.

moting such useful institutions therefore.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That John Kelper, John Eickom, John Sommer,
Lewis Frankerberger, Francis Kenty, Benhard Denerlein,
John Rufner, Augustus Meltzbacker, and all those who
now are, or may become members of this society hereafter,
according to the constitution awl bye-laws thereof, be and
they are hereby created and made a corporation and body
politic, under the name and style of the German Washington
Beneficial Society of Fells Point and State of Maryland.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the officers of said So-
ciety shall consist of a President, Vice President, Secretary,
Treasurer, and a standing committee of nine members, all
of whom shall be elected by ballot, at the annual meeting
on the third Tuesday of December, in every year; at the
same tune a majority of the members present being ne-
cessary to constitute a choice, the society shall also have
power to appoint such other officers as may he expedient

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the aforesaid members,
and their successors by the same name shall be able and
capable in law to purchase, have and enjoy to them and
their successors in fee, or less estate, any estate or estates
lands or tenements, also annuities, pensions or other here-
ditaments within the state, by gilt, bargain, sale, alien-
ation, enfeoffment, release or conformation of any person
or persons, bodies corporate, or politic, capable to make
the same-, and such lands, tenements, rents, annuities, pen-
sions, or other hereditaments, or any less estate, rights in-
terests of or in the same, at their pleasure to grant, alien, sell
and transfer, in such manner and form as they shall think
meet and convenient for the furtherance of the object of
the said society, and also that they may take and receive,
any sum or sums, and any kind of goods and chattels that
may be given or sold to them, by any person or persons,
bodies politic or corporate, capable to make a gift or sale
thereof, and employ the same towards maintaining the said
society, in such manner as they shall judge necessary and
convenient, and for the purpose of promoting the good of
the association.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the aforesaid members
and their successors, shall be able in law in the name of the
President and Directors, of the German Washington Bene-
ficial Society of Fells Point and State of Maryland, to sue
and be sued, plead and be impleaded in any court or courts,
before any judge, judges, or justice within this State or
elsewhere, in all manner of suits, complaints, pleas, causes,
