CHAP. 214,

Proviso.

brought or removed said slaves into this State for sale,
and that the said negroes Flora, Maria, Nat, Robert and
Clarence are slaves for life; and provided that the said El-
len Magruder pay the sum of fifteen dollars for each slave
between the ages of twelve and forty-five years of age, and
the sum of live dollars for each slave under twelve and
over forty-five years, to the clerk of said county, at the
time of giving said "list'" to be paid over to the treasurer
of the Western Shore, for the use and benefit of the Colo-
nization Society.

 

CHAPTER 213.

Passed March
4, 1843.

An act relating to Slaves.

May carry and
bring slaves
into this state.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That any person coming into this State for the purpose of
residing or remaining cither permanently or temporarily,
may bring with him any slaves for life from any other State
or territory of the United Stales, and may carry said slaves

Proviso.

out of this State again, and return with them again; provided,
that the person introducing such slaves shall comply with
the provisions of the act of assembly, passed at December
session in the year eighteen hundred and thirty-nine, chap-
ter fifteen, so far as the same relates to filing a list of said
slaves, and paying money for the benefit of the Coloniza-
tion Society, and provided said slaves are not brought in
this State for sale.

An act to incorporate the Mutual Fire Insurance Company
in Harford County.

Incorporated.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Ralph S. Lee, Doctor David S. Gittings,
Charles S. Sewell, Wilson M. Carey, Doctor Thomas C.
Hopkins, William Murphey, Dr. Walter S. Allender,
Alexander Norris, James Moores, John W. Rutledge, Abra
ham J. Street, Samuel Parker, Joshua Hutchings, David G.
McCoy and John Robinson and their successors, and all
ether persons who may hereafter become members of the
