of and for the society for the relief of the indigent sick
aforesaid, and in case of the death, resignation or removal
put of the State of Maryland of any one or more of the
said trustees, it shall and may be lawful for a majority of
the members of the said society at any meeting for that
purpose, to fill the vacancy or vacancies so that the number
of seven trustees shall be kept up and continued for the use
and purpose of the said society herein of them required.

CHAP. 182.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the members of the so-
ciety for the relief of the indigent sick are hereby authori-
zed to convene and assemble at such time and place as they
may agree upon, then and there to choose and elect by the
ballots of the female members of the said society the se-
veral officers hereinbefore respectively mentioned, or such
other officers as by the constitution and bye-laws of the
said society may be required for the proper conduct and
management of the affairs of the said society, who shall
be members of the said society agreeably to the constitu-
tion and bye-laws thereof, and who shall direct, govern, re-
gulate and manage the said society, and shall form and
make such rules and regulations as may be requisite and
necessary for the assuring and carrying into effect the bene-

volent design contemplated in the formation of this society;
povided, such rules and regulations shall not contravene or
e repugnant to the constitution and laws of the United
States, and of this State.

Proviso.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted. That the aforesaid trustees
and their successors, by the name aforesaid, shall be capa-
ble in law to receive and make all conveyances, disposi-
tions, and transfers of properly real and personal, for and
on behalf of the said corporation, and to take and receive
all sums of money belonging to the said corporation, and
the same to hold in trust for the use of the said society,
and subject to the orders of the treasurer countersigned by
the first directress of said corporation, for the time being,
and the said trustees and their successors shall be able and
capable in law to sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded,
answer and be answered, defend and be defended, in any
court of law or chancery whatsoever, and also to make,
have and use a common seal, and the same to break, alter
or renew at pleasure.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That this charter and act of
incorporation shall be good and available in -all respects in
law, and that the same shall be construed and adjudged in
all cases most favorably in behalf of the said corporation,
so as most effectually to serve and answer the valuable ends
and laudable design of this benevolent association, for the
alleviation and relief of the suffering indigent sick.
